His Academic Background

Dr Oshodi’s academic foundation reflects a lifetime commitment to excellence and learning. He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Estate Management and General Management, respectively, from the University of Lagos. He also earned a PGD from the Institute of Islamic Banking & Insurance (IIBI), London, and he is an Associate Fellow of the institution.

He holds a Master of Research in Business and Management from London Metropolitan University and an MPhil in Economics from the University of Buckingham. Going further, Dr Basheer Oshodi obtained a PhD in Management of Innovation & Technology from DaVinci Institute for Technology Management, Modderfontein, South Africa, in conjunction with Trans4m Centre for Integral Development, Geneva.

His academic breadth is further strengthened by the Executive Programme on International Housing Finance at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA; Digital Business Strategy at Columbia University, USA; and a Diploma in Global Business at the University of Oxford, UK. This blend of education has shaped his worldview—one that values innovation, ethical growth, and financial inclusivity.

Professional Journey and Achievements

Over the years, Dr Basheer Oshodi has built a rich career that spans banking, academia, real estate, and ethical finance. He served as Group Head of Non-Interest Banking at Sterling Bank, where he established the bank’s pioneering non-interest window in 2013. Before that, he set up non-interest banking operations at Stanbic IBTC (Standard Bank) and developed Shariah-compliant products for its asset management division.

His expertise has also informed national policy, having served on Nigeria’s Non-Interest Finance Working Group under EFInA/DFID and the SEC’s Alternative Finance Master Plan Committee.

As CEO of TrustArthur, Dr Basheer Oshodi leads a firm focused on ethical capital-raising, structured investments, and Shariah-compliant financial instruments. His firm has mobilised over USD 500 million in equity and debt and overseen issuances of more than ₦800 billion in funds, sukuk, and commercial paper.

Beyond finance, he has authored and co-authored several books—including An Integral Approach to Development Economics and Integral to Islamic Finance: A Semiotic Approach—and published about 25 academic papers. He is a respected voice at conferences and webinars, speaking on the intersection of finance, ethics, and sustainable development. In recognition of his work, the International Atlantic Economic Society named him its Member of the Month in June 2023.
